I have to admit, before I write further, that I have a biased opinion of Motionless In White. This bias stems from the fact that they are from the same state as I and the music scene here is still beginning to gain steam. However, on top of that I've been a fan of their music since their first EP The Whorror and their small Altpress featurette (Name Drop!). Their music is stylized while still remaining under the Metalcore umbrella and many of their themes stretch across all three CD's. Creatures conducts a certain mood has a consistent sound that brings something new to the over saturated music scene. It's refreshing that there are bands out there that realize that they DON'T have to use auto tune. In each song on this album no musical elements are squandered or come to mind as an after thought. Through the brilliant use of piano/synth and the vocal work of three different members the album delivers on the same level to that of a score of a horror movie. Motionless In White drew from many sources to create the songs on this album. Any pop culture enthusiast would be happy to find that some of their references include: The Lost Boys (An 80's vampire movie with Kiefer Sutherland), The Office, Jack The Ripper & the Whitechapel murders, Sherlock Holmes (2009), Abigail Williams, Charmed, Just Ask, The Headless Horseman & Ichabod Crane, and Edward Scissorhands. Combine all those with their heavy music composing and you are presented with some songs that are relentlessly packed with energy, pit calls, and breakdowns. Most songs regardless of whether the lyrics are screamed or sang create a magnetic effects that will have you either screaming/singing along at the top of your lungs. On top of all of their sources of inspiration are their fans. Proof of this is evident in the song Creatures. Lyrically, with the exception of the chorus, the title song was written from lyrics submitted by their fans. Their love for their fans became even more evident when I saw them live and they couldn't express the feeling that overcame them seeing people singing their lyrics back. The energy and execution of the music on Creatures is a clear reflection of what they are capable of live. I have only seen them twice, once at the Croc Rock in Allentown, PA and once at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, in Royal Oak, MI. I was more than happy with they way they performed and even more pleased that they played some old songs too. The fact that they still play older songs shows that they remain loyalty to their fans who have been there since the beginning. Under the overarching dark facade of the album and it's songs, there is a truly positive message behind it all that everyone can relate to. Their relationship with their fans is just as strong as ever and I hope it remains that way with both old and new fans. As the musical writing ability of the members in Motionless In White grows and progress I hope they continue to make music just as passionately as they do now. So far they are three for three on their albums and can only go upwards from here. I can't wait to see them again live and to hear what comes next.
