When I first found this band it was after the release of Downtown Battle Mountain I.  Immediately, I was hooked.  The vocal nuances of Jonny Craig blew my mind, talk about vocals with some serious soul.  The talented guitar work of Will Swan lights up each song and the way Matt Mingus barrages the drums blows you away.  Every once in awhile you find a band that re-inspires the music scene and for me Dance Gavin Dance was that.  Just a new style of music that incorporated so many different genres.  It was only a matter of time before the band under went massive line up changes and at one point only had two original members remain.  Two CD's later the original band reformed with the exception of Sean O'Sullivan.  I was so excited to find this out because their first two CD's were my favorite of the entire discography. Even the 4 out of 5 star rating in AltPress pumped me up.  Downtown Battle Mountain II echos their original sound and technically all the cues are there.  All the members of the band seemed to have improved at what they do.  The sound of the songs throughout the album is consistent which is important when creating an album with such a high level of anticipation.  I find the CD to be enjoyable, but nowhere near as catchy as DTBM I.  Not to say that I'm disappointed, but I had high hopes for this album and I hate to say it, but it didn't deliver.  I hope that I will eventually go back on these words.  I will continue to listen to this CD repeatedly until I find something that will hook me just like the old Dance Gavin Dance.  For fans of Dance Gavin Dance this album is a must buy, but don't expect to hear the original DGD even with all the original members back together.
