The album opens with "On The Backs Of Our Brothers" an intro that is both powerful and compelling.  The two minutes and twelve seconds of the opener sets the theme and tone of the rest of the album.  Empires is a fairly ordinary ode to this genre, however, this is not to say there aren't good songs present.  "We Are But Instruments" and "Victims" is a perfect example of when WTOMTS is at their best.  Making use of the transitions between both vocal styles is an eloquent hook utilized to keep the listeners attention span at bay.  At times the clean vocals reach their full potential and accent the instrumental music that it is hovering so closely to.  Through out the album, however, the clean vocals sound forced and almost detract from the song.  A slight tune up in this department may bring their music to a whole new level.  Empires contains some electronic aspects and it is really up the the discretion of the listener to decide whether it hurts or helps the bands music.  To me those elements do neither.  During each of the eight songs their are hints of southern rock which is an element they sneak in quite effortlessly.  The album finishes out strong  enough to make you look forward to what they will be writing in the ways of new material.  Where The Ocean Meets The Sky is certainly a great deal better than many of the up and coming bands out there and I am quite surprised they are not more well know.  Give them a chance in your music player.
